What Makes a Trained Leader?

  •  All leaders must take the Youth Protection Training, available online at http://olc.scouting.org/ and it must be renewed every 2 years.
  •  Cub Scout leaders are considered trained when they have completed
    • New Leader Essentials
    • Cub Scout Leader Specific training for their position.
  • Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed :
    • New Leader Essentials,
    •  Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, and
    •  Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.
  • Troop committee members are considered trained when they have completed:
  •  Venturing crew Advisors, assistant Advisors, and crew committee members are considered trained when they have completed :
    • New Leader Essentials and
    • Venturing Leader Specific Training.
Need a class to finish up your training?  Have a conflict with the Scheduled training?  Did you know that you can get training from any district in the NCAC.  You should make sure that you recieve your training certification card (sometimes called the "Red Card" for your own proof  (sometimes records get lost) and to show your unit that you've completed the training.

Always check the website at www.boyscouts-ncac.org to verify training information.

"This Is Scouting" online course is now available at
http://www.scouting.org/Applications/MyScoutingFull.aspx. This online course replaces New Leader Essentials as a "trained" requirement. Just like NLE, it will only be required to be taken once. I recommend that all scouters view this course. It is a nice refresher and seeing it will help you in marketing this training to new leaders. I completed the online course in 45 minutes and found it to be well done. You will need to be patient - I experienced pauses between sessions after each set of progress checks/questions and a couple of times the video locked up for a few seconds. Just wait patiently and the video will restart within the minute.

Yours in scouting,
